Father's Day

It took all I had to crawl out of bed this morning! The pregnancy fatigue has hit full force, and unfortunately coincided with a very busy weekend!

Jose reminded me that since we consider our baby to already be a living being, he is already a dad and should be celebrated on Father's Day. So this year I started what will hopefully be a tradition of Father's Day breakfast in bed. I warned him next year he'll have to be juggling a 4 1/2 month old baby while he eats his pancakes and eggs!

I think our baby wanted to remind us that she or he is really here and chose this weekend for me to start feeling nauseous (and exhausted!). As long as I'm eating often I usually feel ok, but every now and then I feel really yucky. It is still not bad enough to make me throw up (though a couple of different times I thought I might) and I get breaks without it so I'm doing fine. Definitely worth it to know our baby is growing and doing what it is supposed to be doing! Jose has definitely picked up the slack. I got to relax as he washed dishes, vacuumed, mopped, did laundry, and best of all gave me massages and played with my hair until I fell asleep. Yup, I think pregnancy symptoms are definitely worth it!

Update on Baby

We are back from our wonderful trip to Cancun. Our baby is already proving to be a great baby- besides making mommy tired, I felt great the entire trip and didn't start getting nauseous until we were home!

On Monday we went for a follow-up doctor's appt. When we went two weeks ago it was too early to see the baby's development. This visit we were so excited to see Baby's little heart beating, and got our baby's first portrait! Baby looks like a little peanut with teeny little arm and legs! It was so exciting and reassuring to "see" our baby. If I was doubting I was pregnant, the last few days of mild nausea have helped make it feel more real!

Slumber Party

Last Friday night I invited the 4th-6th grade girls in our Sunday School to spend the night. It was a blast (though I have to admit I needed a nap the next two days!). At one point I heard the girls whispering that it was the best slumber party ever. It was great to do it before my mommy instincts kicked in (I mean the mean mommy instincts that say "go to bed" "no more candy" and "you're being too loud").

Debbie Rivera let the girls start of their night by getting candy from her candy store house. I was just as excited as they were!

Then it was pizza

LOTS of Candy

Catch Phrase

Pillow fights

Dancing Musical Pillows

Sliding down the stairs in sleeping bagsIce Cream Sundaes (I was hoping they had forgot I mentioned these because even I was thinking they have had too much sugar)
And finally sleep!

WHEW!

Sonya and Isaiah

For some very exciting news (aside from Baby G), Sonya and Isaiah are engaged! It has been so fun to see God's plan for Sonya's life from high school until now. It worked out perfect!

Isaiah popped the question in Yosemite, completely surprising Sonya, and then attempted a surprise engagement party (she suspected it). It was great to see all their friend's and family who are excited for them!

On a side note to toot my own wedding planning horn (for the purpose of getting other interested unmarrieds to pay me for my services so I can someday quit my job of baby snatcher and work from home), about two months into Sonya and Isaiah's relationship Sonya asked for some wedding ideas. All I knew was that she wanted a wedding with oak trees. I suggested a barn reception and gave her two reception location ideas. And whaddya know, she is going to get married at the place I suggested and have her reception in a barn!

First Appointment

Yesterday, June 1st, we had our first doctor's appointment! I'm definitely pregnant (not that I doubted I was), but we were surprised to find out we are not as far as we thought! Instead of being over 6 weeks, I'm probably closer to 5 weeks. Because a 5 week old baby is only the size of a poppy seed (can you believe in one week it goes from a poppy seed to a lentil to a blueberry?!) there wasn't much to see. Oh well, just means we get to go back in 2 more weeks and see our baby again!

After our appointment we had fun browsing at Johnsons in SLO and shopping at Carters in Pismo! We could not find a single thing (ok maybe one little ducky outfit) that was neutral, so instead we each picked out our favorite warm fuzzy outfit. I of course choose a girly girl ballerina outfit (though who am I kidding. Any child with my genes is not destined to be a dancer!), and Jose picked a blue and brown football outfit (more likely).

I know, I know. What are we doing wasting money on outfits that our baby won't wear? Well with all the friends we know that are pregnant we know the outfit can be given away and put to good use! Just at our church there are 7 other pregnant ladies!

Baby G

This is what Baby G (our nickname for our baby. Jose thinks it stands for Baby Genius, but in my head it is Baby Girl) should look like right now! Even though he or she is teeny tiny it is amazing to me how fast they develop!

Beyond excited

To use the words of future auntie Stephanie, the best way to sum up how we are feeling is "beyond excited!" I seriously can't stop smiling. And it's not just me either. Jose has told everyone he knows, my brother Jasen said he couldn't concentrate in class, my mom has already bought us baby clothes (of course all proclaiming "I Love Grandma and Grandpa"), maternity clothes for me, and even got a bassinet and crib for the nursery at her house!

And though we are only 6 weeks pregnant (34 to go!) we could not keep this excitement to ourselves! A couple of people have said "You must be at least 3 months if you are telling us" and while I understand the reasoning behind waiting to tell, Jose and I had decided before ever being pregnant that we couldn't keep the news to ourselves. Our baby is already bringing us soooo much joy that we had to share it with others! You see, over the past year I have read many blogs about parents who learn they are carrying terminally ill babies. What these mom's taught me is that every day with your baby is a gift and every day should be treasured and appreciated. We'vc put our trust in God that his will for our Baby will happen and we are choosing to not live in fear.

With that said I am anxiously and a little bit nervously waiting for our first appointment June 1st! Since I have been feeling great (though I do feel different, I just can't explain it) I am waiting for that doctor's appointment to make it feel more real. I'd even welcome a little bit of morning sickness as my introduction to mommyhood. Apparently week six is when morning sickness can start so we'll see what I say next week!

Our baby already has a heart beating! Is that incredible or what?!? And he or she will grow this week from the size of a lentil to a chickpea! Grow baby, Grow!
